Pocket VBLANK auto visualizer boards!
ok, here's the deal:
I just created a new set of 32 circuit-boards based off of the visualizer circuit I've been using in performances for the last year or so at Pulsewave, 8Static & 2008 Blip Festival.
The video produced has different output effects, based on the music plugged into it. Basically, I took all of the things I do manually as a visualist, and assigned them to different parts of a stereo input signal.
Here's what the "Pocket VBLANK" is...
-prebuilt 2.5" x 3" circuit board (size of an altoid tin) ready to plug in
and go. comes with a power supply.
-Plug in your live or pre-recorded music via an 1/8" stereo mini from
your sound board, mp3 player, Gameboy, or where-ever.
-Plug your NTSC TV or Projector in via the RCA jack.
-pixel images and colors modulate and change based on the audio as if
I was standing next to you, drinking your beer & jamming out on
video to your tunes.
Here's a test video of that e.s.c. posted of his custom version of the board:
http://vimeo.com/8006159 (also farther down in this thread).
Here's another pic:
Yeah, that's video output from the same circuit at Blip festival 2008 with USK & IAYD.
These boards are $110 a piece until they're gone. The "Special Editions" have all sold.
As I'm still trying to raise money before Blip Festival: I'll do free shipping in the U.S. until December 16th if you email me directly.

Thanks all!
Yeah, as soon as I raise this money, I'll have the rest available from my site. I've redesigned the site, and will have a web shop for my various kits and workshop stuff I've been doing. It's in sandbox now, and should be live right after the Thanksgiving holiday.
I'll drop the link here when it happens.

Oh wow, one of those would be sick.
I take it they're NTSC only however?

Two left!
Actually, I coded a PAL version a while back, but have not been able to fully burn test it since killing my recorder. I'll bring a PAL unit or two to Blip and hopefully someone there will have a PAL monitor we can test them on. If all goes well, there'll be a PAL version in the web shop after that. For now, just a U.S. version for the custom coded units.

Since Christmas season is upon us, I can't afford to dish out the money for one of these... So would you be willing to post a parts list and schematics so us poor college kids can attempt to build one of these? I'm trying to put together a live set and I think this would be a nice simple touch for a live set and from the picture, this looks like it would be fairly simple to build...

i still need to finish my project from your workshop at blip last year

In the future would there be a possibility of DIY kits?

For those who've seen my performance breadboards, this one is pretty complex for a Diy breadboard kit like the other ones I do. I'll definately do a cheaper kit version for those who solder on the next batch of boards. Probably not until end of next summer. I have some YM synth kits I need to finish first!

Is "special edition" some kind of worse or better edition than forthcoming edition?

It's in the top post. I'm programming these with the buyer's own sprite or logo inserted into the graphics. (I'll do one more for this round) All of the rest non "special editions" will be my choice of visual blasphemy.

so awesome! very cool idea. hope you keep them fairly limited-- not everybody deserves their own personal vblank haha
wish i had the money for one of these right now...

I really need one of these, and have enough money - but i'm not sure if I can splash that much atm. Is there any stuff you need? I'm talking anything...
@epichunt: Drop me a line & I'll put you on the Announce list for the PAL (European) version. It'll be a month or so. We can talk about trades then.

Anyone interested in a PAL unit, drop me a line at

and I'll put you on the announce list. I'm guessing January before I sort out a way to test the PAL drivers.

awesome track! Crunchy lows make some nice glitchy jitter on this circuit that I don't get with my performance rig. Love it!
I used one of the new boards last night at a local Hacker party here in Philadelphia, mixing with ENSO over some of Animal Style's newer Sega Genesis tracks.
His FM waves mashed color onto the screen almost continuously. pretty different effect.
---
I have the rest of the boards all stocked, finished and ready to go now!
I'll do free shipping in the U.S. until Blip, if anyone was still looking for one.
I'll edit the top post to reflect this.
